Dove Field Demonstration Program
The Natural Resource Enterprises Program at Mississippi State University is actively engaged in a statewide dove field demonstration effort supporting landowners and sportspersons interested in this type of wildlife recreation.
Dove Food Plot Demonstration and Field Day
The 2009 demonstration will be held in Kilmichael, MS on August 29, 2009. Admission is free and no registration is required. The program begins at 9 a.m.
What you’ll learn:
- How to plant, manage, and legally manipulate crops and native plants to attract Mourning Doves
- Ways to manage a meaningful hunt for fun and profit
- Legal methods of field preparation to eliminate wildlife violations
- Ethics of attracting wildlife for hunting purposes
- Incorporating proven techniques to provide ideal dove feeding areas
One-on-one question and answer with professionals:
- Wildlife Biologists from Mississippi State University and Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries & Parks.
- Enforcement officials from Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries & Parks and U. S. Fish and Wildlife Service.
Directions
- From Jackson: Travel Hwy 55 north to Hwy 82 Winona. From there travel east to 82 loop at Kilmichael. Once in Kilmichael turn south on Hwy 413. The field-day location is 1/2 mile on the left. Look for the Natural Resource Enterprise Workshop signs.
- From Starkville: Travel Hwy 82 west to old Hwy 82 loop at Kilmichael. Once in Kilmichael turn south on Hwy 413. Travel south 1/2 mile and the field-day location will be on your left. Look for the Natural Resource Enterprise Workshop signs.
2005 Dove Field Demonstrations
The 2005 demonstrations, which occurred at Coastal Plains Experiment Station, Tara Wildlife, and Hell Creek Wildlife Management Area, provided specific knowledge about habitat management techniques and emphasized the legal issues surrounding morning dove management. Attendees also become familiar with mourning dove biology and seasonal foraging habits.
