1st Annual Wildlife Festival at the MAFES Coastal Plain Experiment Station in Newton, MSLive snakes, alligators, and turtles are some of the Mississippi wildlife that will be featured at the First Annual Wildlife Festival at the Coastal Plains Experiment Station in Newton, Mississippi on October 17. “There are many fun and educational events for adults and children including a photographic show ‘Wilder Mississippi’ by award-winning photographer and Mississippi native Stephen Kirkpatrick, falconry demonstrations by David Hall of the Wildlife Outreach Foundation, and a talk about the creatures of Mississippi by naturalist Joe McGee of the Mississippi Museum of Natural Science,” says Adam Rohnke, festival coordinator. Wildlife experts will give presentations on management of white-tailed deer, wild turkey, waterfowl, bobwhite quail, and mourning doves. Other topics include preparing your trophy and historical hunting weapons. Bird dog demonstrations, falconry demonstrations, and tours of wildlife management areas at the Station will also be given. Kid’s activities include an obstacle course, wildlife touch tables, interactive displays, face painting, animal track making, and much more. This event is hosted by the MSU Department of Wildlife and Fisheries and the MAFES Coastal Plain Experiment Station. Doors open at 8 a.m. Admission is $5 for adults (12 and up) and $2 for children under 12, which includes all presentations by resource professionals, tours, and kids activities. Local food and craft vendors will be on hand for lunch and sales (Cash only). A schedule of events and more details about this festival including a map are on the Events page.
