Program Overview
Developing the natural resources on private
lands into an income source encourages
landowners to maintain and manage the
resource. The landowner benefits by
developing a source
of supplemental,
dependable
annual income
that complements
current land
use practices;
Mississippians
benefit from the conservation and enhancement
of the natural resource as well
as increased access to outdoor
recreation.
A variety of enterprises can
be developed from natural resources. Some
examples are fee hunting and fishing, wildlife
watching, trail riding, agritourism, heritage
tourism, and other similar activities. The
Natural Resource Enterprises (NRE) Program
at Mississippi State University provides resources
and training for private landowners interested
in developing an enterprise based on natural
resources.
